Squirrels can be found anywhere frequently. If they have set up residence on your property, then it can be very difficult to get rid of them. These small creatures reproduce quickly and soon multiply. They turn your garden into a hell by destroying newly grown floral bulbs and eating fruits and young leaves. Squirrels can also bring health hazards. The risk of salmonella infection increases when a person comes in contact with the urine and feces of the squirrel. They can even cause fleas and give ticks to your pets. So, before they create a mess, get rid of them using the following simple home remedies.
Safflower seeds are bitter in taste, and squirrels don’t like them. To keep these rodents away from the bird feeder, put safflower seeds in it. These seeds don’t cause any harm to the birds.
2. Motion Activated Sprinklers
If you have squirrels in your garden, then it is a good method to get rid of them. This sprinkler does not harm them. It just scares them, thus protecting your garden from destruction.
3. Strobe Lights
Strobe lights irritate them a lot. You can fit them anywhere from your attic to possible hiding places. These lights are environment-friendly and do not harm anyone.
4. Squirrel Trap
Put some sunflower seeds or any other food (like nuts and a few apple slices) in a trap. Keep this trap at the squirrel-infested place. Once the rodent gets entrapped, release it in a faraway area.
5. Hot Peppers
Mix finely grounded hot peppers and garlic cloves together, in equal parts. Add water to the mix and prepare a spray. Transfer it to a spray bottle and sprinkle the mixture onto the plant beds. It will keep the squirrels at bay.
6. Moth Balls
These balls are made up of naphthalene flakes, which help repel the squirrels. Place moth balls at the places which are infested by the squirrels.
7. Jalapeno Pepper
Take a spray bottle. Add jalapeno pepper, vinegar, and water to it. Shake it well. Use this spray to get rid of squirrels in the attic.
8. Cayenne / Chili Pepper
Mix some birdseed and a tablespoon of cayenne powder or chili pepper. Fill the bird feeder with the prepared mixture. It won’t harm the birds, but will repel the squirrels.
